Below are the different courts that deal with different types of charges.
Magistrates Court- This court deals with minor criminal cases
Crown court- This court has the presence of a judge and jury and deals with more serious criminal charges such as rape or arson.
House of lords- this court is the highest in England, it is there responsibility to make and shape laws in England. The house of lords also deals with important appeals from the court of appeal.
European court of justice- all decisions made within this court have to be made and agreed upon by all members of state. This is the highest court in Europe.

Civil Law- civil law is citizen’s rights and does not involve the police. An example of civil law would be say a group of people hired out a five a side football pitch and the manager or owner did not follow the correct procedures to maintain and make the pitch safe for example not spotting a leak causing water on the pitch and as a result of this a person may slip and injure themselves, that person will have the right to sew the owner and claim compensation for there injuries as the manager or owner has not followed the health and safety at work act.
Statutory law- Statutory law is a written law put in place by governing authority. If these laws are broken then a person may well be prosecuted.
