Slavery Traditional African practices of slavery were altered to some extent beginning in the 7th century by two non-African groups of slave traders: Arab Muslims and Europeans. From the 7th to the 20th century, Arab Muslims raided and traded for black African slaves in West, Central, and East Africa, sending thousands of slaves each year to North Africa and parts of Asia. From the 15th to the 19th century, Europeans bought millions of slaves in West, Central, and East Africa and sent them to Europe; the Caribbean; and North, Central, and South America. These two overlapping waves of transcontinental slave trading made the slave trade central to the economies of many African states and threatened many more Africans with enslavement. Slavery was used throughout the world. In regions like Europe, Africa, and the Middle East slavery was used as a way to increase wealth. The positive and negative results of slavery are still seen today.

Being taken from your home against your will and having to travel to a new place that is foreign to you and then work for a master, doesn’t sound very nice. But the slaves had travel around the world, sometimes in cramped buses with a bunch of other slaves. There are different types of slavery and some included more traveling than just from home. Slavery were used all around the world and sometimes had to travel around either with their master or to their master. In regions like Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, slavery was used as a way to increase wealth. Slaves would do a job that was worth a lot of money to you and you wouldn’t have to sweat a drop, the money would pile up in your pockets. Slavery affected the economy by making money for Americans and plantation owners, cotton, tobacco, and other goods. Slavery improved the economy in different ways, which included: free labor. They also worked in plantations, which produced a large amount of products and their existence also led to trade. For slave owners, slavery helped enhance the economy. Since slaves were relegated to mass production, this helped stimulate the local and regional economy in many Southern states. When Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, the need for slaves increased, and more had to be imported from Africa. This made money for the slave sellers, and also the American slave owners, because slave owners were able to produce more cotton.
