Skin color and appearance obviously matters in distinguishing among what
Americans categorize as separate races and ethnicities. Skin tone is deeply implicated in determining individuals’ life chances, identities, and political engagement.Many people have a bias against those who are of a darker complexion and their behavior reflects that. Colorism, is a form of pedijus in which human beings are treated differently based on the social meanings attached to their skin color.As a result of this bias ,people prefer to deal with someone who has a lighter complexion.Their are negative connotations with being darker such as bad,evil,and untrustworthy.This bias can be detrimental,because it prohibits the full potential of anyone deemed darker skinned. Someone darker can miss out on jobs ,and relationships just because of the shade of their skin.Usually implicit behaviors based on skin tone are learned from others who have taught them to be ethnocentric ,or the notion that certain races are inferior to theM. Explicit behaviors about race usually just go along with the cultural norm and what a person has seen to be good or bad .
