Imagine…Your daughter/ son not coming home at the end of the day. Trying to remember what he was wearing as he dashed out of the house that very morning. Or how about the only words you can remember that spewed out his mouth before he left were “I love you”. 600,000 to 800,000 woman and children are trafficking across international borders each year, with 14500 to 175000 trafficked into the U.S. Sex trafficking is a prevalent issue all over the world. Whether sexual, domestic, or labor, the terror and horror that human trafficking victims have endured defies the scope of our sensitivities. To realize that that this may be happening in our own towns and neighborhoods, invisible to us as we go about our daily comfortable lives, is unthinkable. Sex slavery should be illegal as also the government should take it more seriously when these issues come up.
Many citizens believe that only sex trafficking happens in rural areas or that they occur “somewhere else”. Well they are so wrong. They can live anywhere Eastern, Western parts or even right there in your neighborhood. Some can even be married and have children and in some cases they can be trafficking their own kids. They can lure anyone in with the right choice of words. You will have a better life with me…or you will have better living conditions..or I promise will get married and have children. These are some of the horrific promise Women who are victims of trafficking will also face legal consequences.
Frequently, when victims of trafficking come to the attention of local authorities, they are detained or deported for immigration violations or for violating other local laws. As a result, many victims fear going to the authorities to report abuse. Trafficking victims often do not want to risk being returned to their home country,
