“Faux Pas?”: Should Cellphone Use be Banned while Driving? Earlier this year, the Republic Act 10913 or the “Anti-Distracted Driving Act” was finally implemented, which included that the use of cellular phones while driving would be banned. This meant that with the help of police forces monitoring citizens, motorists found guilty of texting, calling, or using mobile apps in a distracting way (i.e. using the hands, or having the screen in the way of sight) would be caught and made to pay a certain fine. Statistics pose an evident reason as to why the government chose to commit this action. According National Statistics Office’s 2015 report, a total of 1,290 incidents of cell phone use while driving were reported from 2010 to 2012, making cellphone use one of the top causes of traffic accidents. Therefore, given these facts, we can see that banning the use of these gadgets is truly helpful to solve such a perilous issue. Or is it?
