BEING DEEPLY LOVED BY SOMEONE GIVES YOU STRENGTH, WHILE LOVING SOMEONE DEEPLY GIVES YOU COURAGE.”
SOME PEOPLE THINK IT'S HOLDING ON THAT MAKES ONE STRONG- SOMETIMES IT'S LETTING GO. “PEOPLE SO SELDOM SAY I LOVE YOU AND THEN IT'S EITHER TOO LATE OR LOVE GOES. SO WHEN I TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, IT DOESN'T MEAN I KNOW YOU'LL NEVER GO, ONLY THAT I WISH YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO.”
WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT SAYING NOTHING IS THAT YOU LESSEN THE TENDENCY TO HURT OTHERS THE BAD THING IS, YOU NEVER REALLY REALIZE HOW KEEPING QUIET HURTS YOU.
ITS PAINFUL TO REALIZE THAT YOU PREFER NOT TO HOLD ON TO A CERTAIN PERSON ANYMORE. FOR THE FACT THAT IF YOU’LL STAY, YOU’LL ONLY GET HURT EVERYDAY.
HOW CAN SUCH PAIN EXIST WITHOUT PHYSICAL HARM? GOODMORNING WORLD….Introduction
Sex segregation is the physical, legal, and cultural separation of people according to their biological sex. This is distinct from gender segregation, which is the separation of people according to social constructions of what it means to be male versus female. Human Resource professionals as well as Social Scientists have been reviewing the different reasons for the inequity of men and women. The gender and wage gap in America is no secret in this society we live in. For years, men have statistically been earning more money yearly than women. Many people find this hard to understand because the United States prides itself on the ideal of equality; the statistics state otherwise. Age, education, occupation, and location are all key factors in determining someone’s annual pay, but there is also an underlying factor, called gender discrimination that goes unexplained. In 2009, the male weekly median income for full-time work was eight hundred and nineteen dollars; female weekly median income for full-time work was six hundred and fifty seven dollars. Since 1979 when the first wage gap statistics became available, women have been making at the lowest sixty-two percent of men’s weekly earnings, and highest in 2005-2006 peaking at eighty one percent. ("Highlights of women's," 2010) One economist testified to Congress that hundreds of studies have consistently found unexplained gender/wage differences, which potentially include discrimination. ("Invest in women," 2010) When years and years of statistics continue to show that men are annually earning much more than women, I would like to understand why exactly, especially in a country that is all about equality and equal opportunity for all. First I am going to explore the gender and wage gap statistics, then explain and look at why this gap exists in America.
In 2007, women’s annual earnings were lower than men's in all states and the District of Columbia. How can we deny the fact that discrimination is taking place when in every single state men are making more than women? Sure, there are cases when some women are earning more than man, but on average men are earning a fair amount more than women. (Bishaw & Semega,2008). It is a well-known and controversial subject in arguing that males tend to dominate in acquiring a higher income than do their female counterparts. Men tend to be seen as higher earners than women, which then inclines the association between masculinity being an attribute of wealth. This stereotype in itself can be attributed in perpetuating the wage gap at both the conscious and non-conscious levels thus leading to a sever inequality and a wage gap. Melissa Williams states in her article, “The Masculinity of Money: Automatic Stereotypes Predict Gender Differences in Estimated Salaries,” that in the United States, the average woman who works full time and year-round earns $0.81 for every dollar earned by the average full-time year-round working man (Williams 7). She also notes that in no other country is there an equality of wages between the two sexes, women are faced with inequality in the workplace all over the world.
The social problems that exist between the sexes are within a
