Relationship between the strength of the electromagnet(#of paperclips picked up) and the diameter of the nail
Number of Paper clips picked up by different lengths of Diameter of the nail
Treatments
(Diameter of Nail)
Number of Paper Clips picked up
Treatment 1 (2mm)
8 paperclips
Control (3mm)
14 paperclips
Treatment 2 (4mm)
19 paperclips
Treatment 3 (6mm)
23 paperclips
Hypothesis
If the diameter of the nail influences the strengths of the electromagnet. Then an increase of the diameter of the nail will cause and increase of the strength of the electromagnet. Discussion
In our experiment that we conducted, our collected data shows that the larger length of the diameter of the nail caused an increase in strength of the electromagnet. According to the graph, the increase of diameter of the nail will cause an increase of strength of the electromagnet. This reflects my hypothesis stating that the diameter of the nail influences the strengths of electromagnet. It shows a positive relationship between the diameter of the nail and the strengths of the electromagnet.
Since the number of wraps is a control variable and only forty wraps are allowed. Therefore a nail that has a larger diameter requires more wire than a nail with a smaller diameter. Since the nail and the wire is a control variable, the materials of every nail and wire conductivity will be the same. Therefore, the nail that has a larger diameter will require more wire to wrap around it. This will cause an increase in strength of electromagnet and it has equivalence to having more wraps
