Schizophrenia Causes and Symptoms
I. Introduction
A. Hook: About 3.5 million people in the U.S. have been told they have Schizophrenia and most of them are between the ages of 16 and 25.
B. Definition: a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.
C. Background info: Holden’s brother Allie died and he never got to say goodbye and he has regretted that his whole life. Ever since the night in the garage he has not been happy or been able to cry about him. He has not made any friends and does not care to make friends.
D. Thesis statement: In J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye Holden Caulfield suffers from Schizophrenia shown through the causes and symptoms of the disorder.
