Revelation Chapter 12 The book of revelation is the last on finial book of the bible. It was written by john, he had a prophetic vision of god telling him of the end of the world, the “final judgment.” Chapter 12 in revelation is about the fight between the woman and her child and the dragon who lies in wait for the child to be born. Chapter 12 starts off with this passage 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” The woman is a symbol of Israel. And she was clothed in the brilliance for the city of Israel is the “Holy City.” The 12 stars on her crown stood for the 12 tribes of Israel.
12:2 “And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.” The woman is a symbol of Israel we know that the woman is Israel and not Mary, because it talks of child birth pains which Mary did not have since she was born without sin. In the Garden of Eden when Eve eats the apple all mankind was born with original sin, the punishment was that we will all die, and we will be ashamed of our naked bodies. “Adam is told that the fields will produce not only grain, but also weeds.” “Eve is told that her children will be born and raised with pain.” So when revelation refers to the woman having labor pains we know this rules out the possibility of the woman being a symbol of Mary. The woman also cannot be a symbol of the church, because Jesus created the church. So indefinitely the woman is a symbol of Israel.
12:3 “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. The dragon in this passage is a symbol for the devil appearing in all his monstrous power. The 7 heads represents pure evil. The number 7 is a sign for completion. The 10 horns is a symbol to the Israelites at that time for the 10 kings who were constantly at war with them. Devil has come to reign over the earth. 12:4 “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.” The dragon starts to summon his demons or “fallen angels” from heaven. These angels were the ones who followed Satan in his battle with God. Satan wants to kill or defeat Jesus at his most vulnerable time. Coyotes will attack the new born calf right after it is born because it is too small to defend itself, so that makes it easy prey. But unfortunately to Satan, Jesus was untouchable because he was protected by God. 12:5 “And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and [to] his throne.” The man child is Jesus, who is to rule all the nations.

12:6 “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days.” The wilderness is a representation of anywhere outside of Palestine. The Israelites were to take refuge with the Gentiles. God would always take care of them and he provided them with a place to stay safe away from the dragon. Since Satan cannot go attack Jesus he will go after his people. But God has ruined Satan’s plans and he hides the Israelites.
12:7-8 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels," "And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven." This part is explaining the fight between Satan and Michael, who is the leader of God’s holy angles. Michael fought against Satan who eventually lost the battle. Satan was no longer aloud in heaven. So now since he is no longer aloud to attack God in heaven he is going to attack the earthly world, God’s people.

12:9-10 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
