Ay

Guns: Restricted

“Yes, people pull the trigger, but guns are the instrument of death.” A senior at Virginia
Tech killed 32 people and wounded 17 others. A shooting in Aurora, Colorado killed 12 people and injured 58 others. A massacre at a school in Newton killed 20 children, 6 staff members, and injured 5 others. These were just few homicides that took place in the past, and will continue to occur if we don’t do something about it. Our society has become unsafe due to the violent shootings. Restricting the possessions of guns could help make this society a safer place to live in. Many innocent lives are being taken due to the misuse of guns. According to Kate
Murphy and Jordan Rubio, “For every U.S soldier killed in Afghanistan during 11 years of war, at least 13 children were shot and killed in America” (Kate and Rubio, News21). Another report by them states that “at least 28,000 children and teens 19yearold and younger were killed with guns.” This clearly shows us how violent and dangerous this society has become, that even little kids are not safe here. Similarly, the shooting that occurred at a school in Connecticut can’t be easily forgotten. Many people argue that the shooter had mental problems and couldn’t be held accountable for the shooting. They further say that by understanding the psychology of the mass murderers, we can help prevent these tragedies from happening. However, we have to accept that there will always be a bunch of people with mental issues living amongst us, and understanding their psychology is not a solution to stop these massacres. Whether a psychopath or not, an easy access to a gun will definitely call for trouble.
In order to avoid such dreadful massacres from happening, guns should be kept in the hands of professionals. Our society is not gun dependent like earlier communities who needed

guns to hunt for food. When societies started modernizing their techniques, the idea of hunting faded, which is when guns started being used to protect the security of the nation. Ironically, now it’s being used to challenge the security of the nations. According to ABC news, a 10year old boy got killed after accidentally shooting himself with his dad’s gun. Similarly, according to Fox
News, a fourteen year old boy accidentally shot himself while playing with a loaded gun. Who is the one blamed in this situation? The reason for these actions to happen is because some people get careless and don’t keep their guns concealed and childproof. But how do we stop it?
