Thank you for your post. It was well written and provided good insight into how IT impacts your work environment. One key point that you hit on was the important role that managing information systems plays on information security. For example, the recent security breach at Target caused problems for many consumers as well as businesses. Protecting customer’s private information is becoming more important and requires a larger emphasis as payment methods are shifting away from cash and organizations are attempting to collect more information in the “information age” that businesses operate in. Information security can significantly impact the bottom line. If consumers are wary of doing business with a particular organization due to information security concerns, then they will shop with the competition, reducing profits. In addition, the Bank that I work at was impacted by this security breach as well. After the Target breach news came out, we had to scramble in order to find out how many of our customers were impacted, inform the customers, and issue them new debit/credit cards. As a result, we had to take employees away from their primary tasks in order to proactively respond to another organizations information security breach.
I also think that you bring up a great benefit of this course when you mention the need to take a step back and really analyze how information systems impact one’s organization as well as how the information systems can be changed to
