I am a young lawyer, and when I have to present in courts, I get REALLY nervous, my whole body is shaking, including my face, and I can hardly speak. I tried all kinds of relaxing techniques, such as breathing, meditation, hypnosis, etc. Nothing helps. What shall I do? It is a serious problem for me. Is there any medication that may prevent me from shaking? Please answer. Thank you very much.
Dear Reader,
Stage fright, whether the stage is the classroom or the courtroom, affects countless numbers of people around the world. Many people are familiar — some are all too familiar — with the changes in the body that come with the anxiety of having to speak in front of others. A pounding, racing heart, shaky hands, and a trembling voice can make speeches, performances, and/or presentations unnecessarily difficult, if not impossible.
Luckily, there's good news: a variety of methods have been shown to be effective in reducing the described nervousness, including medications. One category of drugs that is of note is beta-blockers. These drugs block the effect of adrenaline in certain parts of the body and reduce the physical symptoms that accompany anxiety, such as blushing, sweating, palpitations, hyperventilation, and tremors. They do not, however, actually treat the psychological component of anxiety; they only control the physical symptoms. Also, beta-blockers can be used on an as-needed basis, which is helpful for situations that only happen every so often or when performance anxiety is predictable.
Since so many other methods of controlling your anxiety have been unsuccessful, maybe it's time to visit your health care provider. There, you can discuss the
during their lifetime. In my portrayal of Romeo, I am kneeling down beside Juliet’s “dead body” to show how in his last moments, Romeo wished to stay as close as possible to Juliet. He treats her very delicately during his final words, this was done to show how after Juliet’s “death”, Romeo realized the fragility of life and how easily hers was taken away. The same was done for Juliet when she woke up and found Romeo’s corpse beside her. These actions portray their connection and deep love for…
Examination of a Provoking Speech In a time when hope is nothing but a word, love is nothing but a doubt and the future is anything but pleasant a leader will raise giving meaning to hope, creating romance to love and offering a future that can be unlimited. Adolf Hitler rose to fill the void the German nation had after the Treaty of Versailles. On September 8th, 1934 Adolf Hitler delivered a speech, to over 700,000 Germans, entitled ‘The Triumph of the Will.’ This speech was a part of the film, which…
Dr. King begins by proclaiming his joy of how happy he is to be joining with fellow Americans for what he believes to be “the greatest demonstration for the freedom in the history of our nation.” This demonstration is essential because at the time African Americans were not being treated equal with whites even though one hundred years before Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves. Dr. King’s goal for giving this speech was to open America’s eyes to this fact of…
communication and is an only conversation between two people; giving information and expressing themselves towards each other. Normally when you are starting a conversation with someone that you don’t know really well, it is important that you try to create a positive emotional atmosphere before you go on to talking or discussing about the things you want to talk or discuss about as well as giving information to them. The other person also needs to feel happy, calm and relaxed to talk to you, and you can also…
Airlines (SWA) is known as the low fare carrier that delivers more than just a ‘welcome aboard’ speech. Ask most anyone who has flown Southwest and chances are you will find someone who has experienced their company culture. From smiling faces and silly songs as you taxi to the gate, you don’t just feel like a number to them you feel like a part of their company. A part of this always cheerful attitude is in how the employees are treated by each other and by management. In the video one of the major…
assimilation is good but claims that you can have two identities and still be American and practice your other culture. After analyzing the students’ facts, support, and tone, it becomes clear that Trevor Wagner’s speech was more superior. Support is essential in a persuasive argument. Depending on how you support yourself in your argument will greatly impact the audiences’ point of view in what you are saying. In the pro argument, Wagner does this with precision. In the argument, he supports his claims…
details. I will be able to explain how individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text I will be able to draw evidence in a previously read text to stimulate a thoughtful well-reasoned exchange of ideas. I will be able to navigate through reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation of a word or determine or clarify its precise meaning, its part of speech, or its etymology (origin). Questions:…
Jobs’ Stanford Commencement Speech Steve Jobs is successful even though he is not a college graduate, and has an unstable and unorthodox beginning to his life. He uses his background to play upon his rhetorical strategies in his Stanford commencement address. While speaking to the new Stanford graduates, Jobs uses love and loss as universal emotions common to all humans. He aims to convince the grads to use their intuition and follow their hearts to become happy. He also uses repetitive…
The things that truly made it a film is just the fact that all this truly happened, nothing was sugar coated and it wasn’t intended too but it really hits home when you see the Nazi soldiers serving Hitler with pride and it makes you think what feeling could drive them to have the mentality they had. 7. What effects might all the masses of people (especially those dressed in uniform) have on the viewers of…
(3) Explain and evaluate the principles John Stuart Mill uses to decide when we should be free to do as we please and when the government is justified in controlling our actions. Provide examples of each situation. Do the same for the issue of individual freedom of speech versus government control of speech. Why does Mill think that these principles are best? For our purposes, "explain" means to state the theory and to describe the important features of the theory in a manner that an intelligent…
