Same Sex Marriage: Denying the Right to Love
Marriage is a formal union between a male and a female who love each other and wish to spend the rest of their lives together. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to experience marriage due to their sexual orientation. No matter how much they love each other or how long they have been together, their right to love is taken away. Same sex marriage is looked down upon by many people and is illegal in most states. It is often argued that same sex marriage is wrong and is not considered to be the “natural” way of living. Although this may be true, same sex marriage is not the “norm,” our generation is much different from the previous. Not allowing same sex marriage is denying a basic right. Everyone should have the right to love whoever they wish regardless of their race, religion, or gender. What’s a life without love? Love is a basic need and a basic building block in a happy life. In this quote, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren states, “The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.” Marriage is more than a legal document, especially to gay couples who have been fighting for over decades just to be given the right to love whoever they wish.
