Women human’s rights are violated daily around the world. No matter, the race or age many women endure mistreatment. Women in many countries like Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive or simply go out without a male chaperone, or in Afghanistan who are imprisoned for “cheating” on their husbands. Women are subjected to rape and sexual abuse by co-workers, police officers, soldiers and family members. Girls in countries like China are being abandoned because of their gender. Additionally, the so called honor killings were in parts of the Middle East, and North Africa women are being killed because they are perceived as misbehaving. Women are discriminated in many jobs because of their gender, especially in male dominated fields; women are treated at all times like less or incapable. Women human’s rights are violated every day against their will, and even though times are changing this is not changing.
The universal declaration of human rights states “Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world” but articles 1, 2, 5, 7, 16 are violated daily in many countries were women have little to no rights at all. Alarming accounts of abuses of women’s human rights appear regularly in today’s media. For instance, families who sell daughters for sex or servitude, honor killings, forced or prevented abortions, or the worldwide incidences of domestic violence and these are only a few of the issues of concern. The following are the main articles on the declaration of human rights being violated.
Article 1“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”
Article 2 “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it is independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty”
Article 5 No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Article 7 All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.
Article 16 (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.
(2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.
(3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.
Human rights violations against women must be recognized not only as features of the developing world but as a continuum that cuts around cultures. In many societies such as the United States, Europe and Latin America domestic violence is out of control. Many cases of domestic violence go unsolved not only because all a female is going to get is a restriction order, a piece of paper who would not keep an abuser away from anyone. In the next consecutive paragraphs different countries around the world will be mention to explain the way women human rights are violated worldwide.
The oppression of women is still common in rural areas of Middle Eastern countries where many families still restrict their own mothers, daughters,
