My view on capital punishment is that although we feel it is justified and moral as a punishment for extreme crimes, it is ultimately unacceptable. I am torn with the concept of “an eye for an eye” and the necessity that a punishment be served to horrible crimes. It feels correct that we should put forth ultimate punishments for ultimate crimes, but through the various things I have learned throughout my life, capital punishment is not approved by any of them. Capital punishment only lowers our government to the level of the criminals themselves, depriving us of the honor we are attempting to exhibit by punishing the evildoer. Moreover, I do not think that the United States should allow this practice to be legal. I do not think it should be allowed because the United States is reflecting each and everyone of its citizens and to portray that they are willing to kill as a means of punishment, shows them to be barbaric. Also they are killing their own citizens, who they are supposed to be serving, which alone is absurd that they would kill the people they are working for. Also death is the ultimate destruction of life, which is to extreme for the government to take away from someone. There are limits to the jurisdiction of the government and I feel the time of their own citizen’s death is where this line is drawn. The concept of deterrence is not considerable in this situation because a life sentence in jail is practically the same thing as capital punishment, aside from the forced death. A life sentence would scare a person willing to commit the crimes that would

Since the early years of the Republic, people have argued about whether capital punishment is necessary or not in the United States. With so many opinions, it’s difficult to tell whether it is justifiable or not. Taking into account the quantities of errors the court makes, along with the cost of imprisoning an inmate, and whether the death penalty falls under the Bill of Rights, the death penalty is a complex issue. Capital punishment in America has been around since the colonial times of Jamestown…
non-religious people do not have a clear understanding of moral behavior because they are not guided by a religious text; however, recent research indicates that morality is not directly correlated with religion. Irreligion often has a negative connotation. Stereotypically, anyone who is unguided by a religion is labeled as immoral, untrustworthy, or a ‘devil worshiper.’ Although they remain harsh, these labels have become a lighter form of insults. In recent years the prejudice towards non-religious people…
the United States of America, the right to vote is given to all American citizens. When a citizen of the United States turns eighteen, he or she gains the right to vote in state and federal matters. These matters range from voting for the mayor of ones city or town to voting for the next President of the United States. Although the right to vote is a privilege granted to all citizens, what happens if one of these citizens is convicted of a state or federal crime? Well depending on the state in which…
Land of the “Free” The United States of America is well known to be the place for freedom. Living in America all your life you wouldn’t have anything positive to say about our government as a whole. We are living in The Land of the “Free” where we as people are not really free. We are not free as individuals to make mistakes and learn from them. They take away our constitutional right to vote after a felony conviction. We are not free to openly express our freedom of religion. Instead we are ostracized…
knowledge of African American studies was very weak in the sense that I never really knew the struggle that African American faced in the United States besides the use of slavery and aspects of the Civil War. This class really opened my eyes as to the struggle and fight for equal treatment throughout history by starting African American colleges in the United States to spread knowledge and the true history of the African American people that lack being told in history textbooks in this country. After…
that states today cannot make use of another means than capital punishment to defend peoples' lives from an unjust aggressor." Many Catholics believe that the death penalty, like abortion or euthanasia, is a “violation of the right to life.” The 5th commandment “Thou shall not kill” goes against the Old Catholic belief that the death penalty was acceptable. Many religions have strong views on the death penalty; some are still for capital punishment. The Islamic religion is one of the religions that…

and South Korea. The capital city of North Korea is Pyŏngyang, which is also the largest city. North Korea was founded in 1948 after it had been freed from Japanese occupation, but the southern half of the country is currently occuppied by the United States. At first there was a war between the armies of the North and South in what is called the Korean War, but the fighting stopped in 1953 while the war never fully ended. Afterwards, North Korea was friendly with China and Russia but never was formally…
Should Alex Rodriquiez be banned from playing Major Leauge Baseball? This shouldn’t even be a question. The last time I looked at the laws in every state of our country drug use is illegal regardless of your stature. The question really should be, how long are we going to put these “athletes” in prison for. As to the question at hand, I do not believe that any person who is caught using illegal drugs should be allowed a multi million dollar salary until their debt to society is paid. If this was…
CRIMES AND VERDICTS PROFESSOR TIMOTHY KELLY INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAY 29, 2014 I have chosen the State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman as the first part of this paper. Why was Zimmerman charged and tried at the state level, and then face the possibility of Federal charges? Is this not “double jeopardy”? The court that will try a case is decided by jurisdiction, jurisdiction being defined as “(1) the legal authority of a court to hear and decide a certain type of case; (2) the geographic…
