Lesson Objectives: Does increasing the temperature, increase or decrease the rate of reaction (How fast the reaction happens)?
Increasing the temperature of a solvent gives the particles more energy, this in turn speeds up the movement of the particles. This increase cause more solvent particles to collide into the solute. As a result, solute particles break loose and dissolve faster.
A solvent dissolves a solute resulting in a solution.
What is the role of the Solvent in the reaction?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

What is resulting mixture called?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Identify the Solvent
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) Calcium Carbonate (CaCo3) Water (H2O)

Identify the Solute ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) Calcium Carbonate (CaCo3) Water (H2O)

What do you think happens to the speed at which the solvent particles move as they are heated up? Faster Slower No change
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Do you think the solvent particles are more or less likely to collide with the solute? More Less No change
Do you think the rate of dissolution (dissolving) of the solute particles will more or less quickly? More Less No change
What effect will this have on the rate of reaction? Faster Slower No change
