Black and White Lies: the American blemish
America’s history has been blemished by racial discrimination. The act of treating someone with hostility because of their skin or racial background has hindered this country as many others for centuries now. Even though this was a very feat I feel it was necessity for our culture to evolve and aim for a better tomorrow. I know why the caged bird sings was an autobiography written by Maya Angelou in the early 1900's. This story is about mya's life and her life living as an African American in the 30's with her grandma after being abused when she was younger. She also talks about her restrictions of being an African American when there was still discrimination for looking different and as she says “a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied." Black boy was an autobiography that was written by Richard Wright in the early 1900's. The story is about Wright’s life living as an African American writer in America when he was a boy. The story is about the issues Wright got because he had his story published because no of his color or age has done in his community. The grief he gets comes from his mom, uncle, grandma, and even his own classmates. He grandmother I feel makes him feel the worst for her saying “that’s the devil's work," when she read his story. I have a dream is a speech written by Dr. Martin Luther King jr. The speech was written in the 1950's and talks about how he wanted equalizing for everyone even if they were white or black, child or adult. The speech goes over on how America has promised equality for all and still over a hundred years later there isn't. Finally his speech goes over how even though humans are racists we are all equal under god's eyes no matter the color of your skin or beliefs. After listening to the I have a dream speech, I was able to clearly see the passion in Dr. King’s speech and how important his word were and still are. Dr. King
