P1) to provide a supportive and challenging environment, you would need to plan exciting and different types of activities. play can be a everyday challenge for the children, as they are interacting with other children, are developing their ability to learn and explore. the teachers can support their children doing this as children may have to take it in turns, teamwork either indoors or outdoors. in some cases, this can be done through:
· P.E Lessons- being able to dress and undress themselves with and without adult support. this can be challenging as you are supporting them to be able to look after themselves. changing the different type of activities to do with p.e. for example, one week they could learn about pushing and pulling, another week they could be learning about reflecting and mirroring each other. some activities can be challenging as some lessons children may have to work in pairs, and not everyone likes working with just one friend, so supporting them and encouraging them can bring them round to taking it in turns with different people.
· Food- a carpet session and activity on the different types of food, knowing healthy and non healthy food and whats good and bad for you. the activity can challenge the children as they have to put the pictures of food in the right categry. for example, there are two collums, one healthy and the other is non healthy, the children have to cut the pictures out and put them in the collum they think it goes.
· carpet time- discussing about knowing whats right and wrong, the rules of the classroom. for example, no hitting, no spitting, no kicking. this is to challenge the children if they have been listening or not. you can also support children with a carpet sesson on show and tell, this can challenge the children as the teacher may ask questions which might take some time to answer.
· art- children having the chance to use different materials, resources and get to feel the texture. challenging them to know what they are using, experiencing different ways in which they can use the materials and the support from the teachers as well as parents.

it is important to provide a supportive and challenging environment for the children as they are developing on their skills. fine motor skills can be encouraged by getting the children to draw or make creative things during art time, supporting and praising them with what they are producing, challenging them to use different size pens, pencil's, crayon's and chalk is another way of presenting work and helps them develop on their fine motor skills. throught their p.e lessons, challenging the children each week with something new to learn, encouraging them to take part in the activity whether its something they would not like to do, supporting them with getting undressed and dressed again, helping some children if they can not do it as well as supporting them and encouraging them they can do it. for example, a child can not take his trousers of and goes and asks the teacher, the teacher then un does the child's button on their trousers and asks them to take their own trousers off. the child then done it as it was a new challenge for them as there parents have always helped out. During carpet time, the teacher may have to go over the rules of the classroom and how to treat one another as one child might have hurt another child in that class. for example, child A has bit child B nose as child B was trying to hug child A. by asking the class if this kind of behaviour acceptable, the children may raise there hands and explain what is right and wrong and if the children are shouting out and not raising their hands, there name may go under the sad face or moved onto amber traffic light. also in carpet time, during lesson, you can challenge the children about the different types of foods the children can eat, whether they are healthy and not healthy, the children can be supported with the discussion and the teachers may help the children
