Introduction
Qantas is the world’s second oldest airline, founded in the Queensland outback in 1920. The organisation has dominated the Australian aviation industry to now be the largest domestic and international airline, employing approximately 37,500 people within 44 different countries becoming one of Australia’s strongest brands. Culture
Qantas’s culture plays a major role in within the organization. Being one of Australia’s strongest brands culture is a key factor to consider. Organizational culture is defined as, the shared values, norms and expectations that govern the way people approach their work and interact with each other (Gourley, M 2011). Edgar Scheins theory of organizational culture fits best to view Qantas. Through the three aspects, beginning with the assumptions within organisational culture, within Qantas this includes the sights, smells and noise that are experienced every day that has a reflection on the behaviour of the employees. The second aspect takes the values of the organization into deliberation. Analysing social norms, goals and standards offers a perception of what the members of care about, through doing so the company focus on achieving its three major strategic goals, safety, customer service and operational efficiency. The third aspect is the analysis of organizational artefact’s, being a manifestation or expressions of the same cultural core that produces and maintains the values and norms, however the further distance from the core can make it even more difficult to interpret their cultural significance unambiguously (Hatch, MJ and Cunliffe, AL 2006).
