Methodology of research
This report will look at the following points: A. Negotiating with learners, e.g. initial assessment, agreeing goals and actions. B. Inclusive learning, e.g. the use of different delivery methods, resources and adapting session plans. C. Integrating functional skills into their subject area, (Language, Literacy, Maths, ICT). D. Communication, e.g. verbal/non-verbal and possible barriers.

However in 2003 Edgar Dale presented his theory of “Dales Cone” this research showed that people / students tend to remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, 50% of what they see and hear, 70% of what they say and write and 90% of what they do.

Looking at “Dales Cone” it would be fair to say that using a more kinaesthetic learning style is very good practice for learners, I would certainly agree with this for ICT students.

C. Integrating functional skills into their subject area (Language, Literacy, Maths and ICT).

Functional skills is known by several names, key Skills, Core Skills and even Basic Skills, all of these skills are seen as essential to learning. Sir Claus Moser was asked to produce a report on how the problem of Basic Skills (Literacy, Maths and ICT) could be solved, this report by Moser highlighted some key points, “7 million adults if given the alphabetical index to the Yellow Pages cannot locate the page reference for plumbers”. Moser was able to identify through his research that the fundamental causes of this problem were the failing of the education system when these people were at school, low levels of motivation and social stigmatism.
