Concept of conception
Conception is a process in which the egg must be fertilised by sperm to become pregnant, the sperm travels from the penis into the vagina and goes towards the cervix through the fallopian tube it then ends up meeting the egg and the sperm fertilises the egg.
Physical changes in pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time of physical change for women. Everything from the size of her belly to the speed at which her heart beats will change over the nine months leading up to childbirth. Some physical changes in:
Breasts become larger and tenderer due to more hormones in a pregnant woman body.
Increased blood volume
Body temperature increases
Cravings, this is where they will want to eat certain things a lot.
Stretch marks can happen along the stomach, thighs, breasts and many other places due to the skin being stretched too fast.

Intellectual changes in pregnancy

Concerns about labour, how to handle it and feeling scared will make women think about it every day and worry about it.
Adapt their life to their baby’s life, such as quitting smoking and drinking so it doesn’t harm the baby.
Learn how to care for themselves and their baby e.g. nappy changing, bottle feeding etc. The mother needs to learn these things because the baby needs these every day and no one else is going to do it for her, they can get help off midwifes, classes and family.
Not being late for doctor appointments for the baby after it’s born because it is serious and an important matter because the baby will need injections, need to get weight to see if it is growing properly and if this doesn’t happen the mother will get into trouble and this could be called neglect.
What to eat during pregnancy to keep the baby healthy, this is important because what the mother eats goes to the baby so this means that the mother will needs lots of foods with nutrients in so the baby gets lots of nutrients to grow properly and be healthy.

Emotional changes during pregnancy

First trimester. Extreme tiredness or morning sickness can colour your daily life. Moodiness is normal. Happiness and anxiety about a new pregnancy, or feeling upset about pregnancy is common too.
