Analysis.

1. Identify the title, text type, composer and year of publication.
Fight club is a movie by David fincher that was released in 1996. It is about a ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground "fight clubs" forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion.
2. Identify the context in which your ORT has been set out and the key ideas related to the concept of ‘belonging’ which are represented.
Fight club is set in the era and the location of Wilmington, Delaware and explores the main protagonists search for a reason to belong in his world. Aspects of belonging that are explored in this movie include the countless purchases of furniture followed by the quote “What kind of dinning set defines me as a person? I had it all, a stereo that was very decent, and a wardrobe that was getting very respectable. I was close, to being complete.” From the narrator he is looking for belonging through materialistic things such as clothes and apartment decorations.
3. Outline at least 4 key ideas about belonging which are represented in your ORT.
There are multiple examples of ideas of belonging in the film fight club. The narrator achieves social belonging and relief from his sleepless nights by attending support group meetings for people with blood parasites, tuberculosis and lupus. Instead of suffering from a fatal parasitic disease, the narrator himself is the parasite. The narrator attempts to create a reality where he belongs by filling his apartment with unneeded furniture, he was defining himself through his possessions. Tyler quotes in the movie “We are by-products of a lifestyle obsession. Murder, crime, poverty, these things don’t concern me. What concerns me are celebrity magazines, television with 500 channels, some guy’s name on my underwear, Rogaine, Viagra, Olestra, Martha Stewart.” He describes a life style that is defined by things you don’t need.

5. Compare and contrast how these key ideas have been represented in your prescribed text and your ORT.
In fight club and the simple gift the barriers of belonging are similar for the fact that both billy and the narrator are living in terrible conditions, distorting their view on life and other people way of viewing them. They are searching for a place to belong it while attempting to escape their past, and in the way their find a person that makes a massive impact on their life. The big difference is that the narrator attempts to search for belonging through material possessions while billy has no material possessions and searches for belonging through his reading.
6. Explain how the perspectives that are given voice in or are absent from your ORT include or exclude you from the text.
I can relate to billy in the way that we are both teenage males in Australia,
