1) Growing Seeds Into Plants!
2) Introduction!

• The purpose of this experiment was to study how seeds became plants with different variables within the experiment being analyzed.!

• Hypothesis: A seed watered with tap water will grow better than a seed watered with salt water. !

• I predict that the seeds with the tap water will grow larger than the seeds watered with salt water. !

• Background: People since the dawn of agriculture have experimented with all different methods when growing plants and crops. Whether it be various amounts of light exposure, water exposure, different soils, or different temperatures, every single minuscule detail comes into account when growing. !

• This experiment is relevant because people who work in nurseries or out in the field on a farm need to know what set of variables works best for them so they can achieve maximum output on their plants and crops. !
3) Materials and Methods!

• To test the hypothesis, there were four different petrie dishes set up on September 4, 2014 on a west facing window sill. Vermiculite was first added to the petrie dishes so that the bottom was entirely covered and evenly spread. Next, a filter was placed over the entirety of the vermiculite. Then 6 seeds were added to each of the petrie dishes, two dishes had

Mung seeds, two had Alaskan pea seeds. The “A” set of seeds was the control and was watered daily enough that the entire filter was wet from tap water. The “B” set was watered daily as well with a 5% salt water solution. Each week, the sprouts were measured.!

• In the Set A results, the growth rate for both the Mung seeds and the Alaskan seeds increased after the first week. The Mung seeds growth rate continued to rise throughout the trial considering that the final date of growth was two days before the three week mark. The growth rate of the Alaskan pea seed continued on a steady rate of growth after the first week. !

• In the Set B results, the growth rate again increased after the first set of quantitative data was taken. The rate of the Mung seeds and Alaskan pea seeds
