Functional Area Interrelationships
An organization structures itself to provide the best services or to manufacture the best products by using functional areas. Functional areas are known as "the grouping of individuals on the basis of the function each performs in the organization, such as accounting, marketing, and manufacturing" (Business Dictionary, 2014). Functional area within an organization must communicate effectively to one another to accomplish daily business endeavors. Different functional areas may rely on another functional area for support. For example, Patton - Fuller Community Hospital's organizational structure is divided into many functional areas such as human resources, operations, nursing, financial, environment, and information technology that all are essential to another areas achievements.
Organizations Primary Reasons for Existence
"Patient care is our most important job" (Patton - Fuller Community Hospital, 2013). Offering every patient the highest level of healthcare services available throughout their lifetime is a primary organizational focus. Patton - Fuller Community Hospital aims to provide health care programs and other options that are cost effective for both patients and employees.
The Patton - Fuller Community Hospital human resource mission statement is as follows, "to develop, establish and maintain policies and programs that ensure the successful recruitment, employment, and retention of a diverse, well qualified workforce to serve the patients" (Patton - Fuller Community Hospital, 2013). Patton - Fuller Community Hospital prides itself on being an employer of choice. This organization wants an employee culture that is successful, diverse, and a constant learning environment. The upmost ethical standards are expected to be followed at Patton - Fuller Community Hospital by complying with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Key Stakeholders
According to “Stakeholder – Business Dictionary” (n.d.), “A key stakeholder could be a person, group or organization that has interest or concern in an organization.” This can affect or possibly be affected by the organization’s actions, policies, and objectives. A key stakeholder in an Business can be creditors, employees, directors, owners, suppliers, unions, and the community from where the business draws its resources from the government. Not all stakeholders are considered equal, depending on the type all stakeholders are entitled to different considerations.
Patton-Fuller Community Hospital key stakeholders are the patients, employees, visitors, investors, the community, and the Board of Directors. Kate Sweetman, Dave Ulrich, and Norm Smallwood (2011) states “Employees want to work in a place where they can meet their personal needs and wants. Leaders who create job assignments, work environments, and visions help employees be both competent and committed to their work.” (A Leader’s Five Key Stakeholder) Working in a hospital environment the patients including the visitors need to know that they are receiving the best care possible to build the trust with the care providers.
