Since the AIDS epidemic broke out 30 million people all around the world have died because of this horrible diseases. The high point of the disease was in the late 1990s, AIDS/HIV is a disease that attacks the immune system. It attacks the immune system by lowering your T-cells to about 200 and below and that severely weakens you. On average a person’s immune system 1200-1600 . These T-cells are white blood cells and they fight off diseases. Anything such as a common cold can be very deadly with AIDS. AIDS little by little has begun to decline because of Medical advances. AIDS/HIV has become less of a death sentence compared to the 1980s. AIDS has become a long-term disease that is very treatable. Is it the government’s responsibility to help those with AIDS?
There are many challenges that AIDS/HIV patients or people that are dealing with these problems have. It’s about $1,110 a month and per year that’s $13,000 a year. For a lot of AIDS patients this can be too expensive. For the medicine to be successful, this pill has to be taken daily. “This begs practical questions; research shows that people at the greatest risk for this sexually transmitted disease don’t always practice safe sex by using a condom, and if they can’t remember to do that, will they remember to take a pill every day?” President Barack Obama gave $26 million to centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other organizations and they offer support to AIDS patients such as free medications to treat them . President Barack Obama said "The United States should be at the forefront of new discoveries into how to put HIV into long-term remission without requiring lifelong therapies - or, better yet, eliminate it completely”. But there are many states on waiting list for these programs. An editorial in St. Lois said “Here’s another problem: Many of the prostitutes, wives and gay men who are most at risk of contracting AIDS aren’t highly valued by the societies in which they live. Even when the resources are available, political leaders often are reluctant to use them on ‘those people”’. Because of medical advancements death are down. “But they are not down to safe levels” NPR commentator Richard Knox says. Knox also pointed out “that while there are 20 percent fewer deaths because of medical advances, for every person put on treatment, two more become infected”. It is the government’s responsibility in a sense to help those affected by AIDS/HIV and the government has many organizations. Some of the organizations are Department of State, which provide human resources, tracking budgets within the accounting system and Providing office space, communication, and information technology services. The U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator reports directly to the Secretary of State. At the direction of the Secretary, the Department of State's support for the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator. Another organization is Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Its main goal is to protect public health and safety through the control and prevention of disease, injury, and disability. The government also funds a lot of money into the prevention of AIDS/HIV. But it is not only the government’s responsibility to help those affected by AIDS. People should be more aware of this epidemic. People should be more aware when it come to sex such as when you are an adult go at it at the safest approach which might be abstinence or faithful monogamy. Don’t have sex until you can form a stable and lasting relationship for teenagers and use condoms during sex is also one of the safest ways not to contract AIDS . There are many other small things like a tattoo artist wearing gloves because of his/her concern of AIDS can be spread by minute amounts if infected
