I have been working in Chief Li for 4 weeks since I arrived in Bathurst. There are many behaviour and situations involved in organisational behaviour which are different from China, such as workplace diversity, psychological contract, human resource maintenance, job satisfaction & performance and organisational values.
Workplace diversity

Workplace diversity covers gender, age, educational background, language, culture as well as work experience and religious belief. Workplace diversity strategies help to build the organisation's relationship with the community, enhance the contribution of its employees and improve the quality of its programs, products and services. (Public Service Act 1999 (PS Act) ) Chief Li recognizes the important of workplace diversity. They attracts and develops people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. They hire the different level of employees, which include students, housewife, young man and also different culture background people such as Australian, Chinese and Indian. Because it is a Chinese restaurant, the manager needs employees who are from China to actually understand their culture, food, and make it easier to convey restaurant’s concepts to Chinese customer-------their major clients. The student employees help them to win more customers from campus since Chief Li is near the school zone. However, students are young and not very good at handle food and service, so that Chief Li also hire housewife to help and teach young people. Although it is a Chinese restaurant, after all it is opened in Australia, they need help from Australian to deal with Australian customers. That’s why Chief Li also employs local people as waiters or waitress.

Workplace diversity offers Chief Li abundant and steady customer sources. Chief Li satisfies every customers’ needs and makes them feel at home, so that we all share in that feeling no matter where you came from. There are some differences between China and Australia. China is a developing country while Australia is a developed country, so that in China, many people work in a restaurant for their basic needs just like the physiological and safety needs of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, what they need is money for food, biological maintenance, interpersonal aspects of daily life and also need for security, protection and stability in physical. But in Australia, after they have been satisfied for those basic needs, people find part time job often for esteem needs and self-actualisation needs, and they work for experience, respect, recognition, and also enjoyment.
We can also see traces of Alderfer’s ERG theory in this situation, which is Chinese seek for existence needs while Australian seek relatedness needs. Human resource maintenance
