1) Order - Basis of living cells Reproduction - Producing of own kind Growth & Development - Inherited form of DNA Energy Process - Turning food to energy chemically Regulation - Regulating an organism’s habits to have a sustain lifestyle Adaptation - Working with habitats that may have generated years ago
2) Molecule - A cluster of small chemical units called atoms held by chemical bonds to help form an organelle, which is a membrane-enclosed structure that performs a specific function in a cell. A cell is the fundamental unit of life. A lot of cells make up tissues for a specific reason. Tissues formed together make organs to serve specific functions. Organs put together make up an organ system which has many organs to work together for a purpose. Once organ systems are put together, an organism is made, a living thing. When organisms of the same species come together, a population is created. Once there are multiple populations of different species, a community is made. And once there are many communities of species, an ecosystem comes together. Once all the ecosystems are put together in the world, the biosphere (earth) is made.
3) Emergent Properties - Properties of a higher biological organization that wasn’t in the level before.
4) Cells are in a special level of organization because its the level where properties of life emerge or the lowest level of structure that can perform all activities required for life.
5) Prokaryotes were the first to evolve on earth. Eukaryotes were found about 2.1 billion years ago. A eukaryote has a nucleus and a prokaryote does not.
6) Nutrients cycle through the ecosystem from air and soil to plants, to animals and decomposers, and back to air and soil. Nutrients necessary for life are carbon dioxide, oxygen, water, & minerals. An ecosystem gains and loses energy constantly. Energy starts in plants from the sunlight and converts it to complex through consumers to decomposers and powering each organism.
7) Homeostasis - Steady state of body functioning; equilibrium Photosynthesis - The process which plants use sunlight energy to make sugars and other organic food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. Cellular respiration - Harvesting of energy from food molecules; chemical break down of food molecules such as glucose and the storage of potential energy that cells can use to perform work. Producers - An organism that makes organic food molecules from carbon dioxide, water, and other inorganic raw materials. Consumers - An organism that requires complex organic compounds for food which is obtained by preying on others or eating particles of organic
