Many gun-control proponents argue that possession of firearms should be limited to military and police, because they’re properly trained and have legitimate reasons to be armed. Private ownership of weapons is an antiquated notion that has no place in a modern society. For hundreds of years our nation has thrived to become the best they can be and with determination for perfection rules are set into place. “The laws proscribing concealed-carry of firearms by honest, law-abiding citizens breed nothing but disrespect for the law. Life in the United States is known for it's freedom. With this freedom comes the right to protect not only us but our loved ones as well. But our government's lack in trust and fear of terrorism makes every person a criminal until proven innocent. They will do anything possible to manipulate power. “Laws disarming honest citizens proclaim that the government is the master, not the servant, of the people” (Snyder). ). Because we are seen as the enemy, the government feels obligated to control each and every one of us. The only way for them to feel dominant is to surveillance us and encrypt fear into our minds. But in reality, the only way for everyone to be safe is to defend ourselves. With firearm by our side, things would be much different. If every man and woman had equal knowledge on guns, any act of violence would make the culprit think twice before doing so. A gun is a weapon that requires little knowledge to use. It is much simpler than a knife, much more effective than pepper spray, and much more convenient to carry compared to a sword or a bat. No matter where we are, we will not be defenseless in a time of need. “The beliefs of both our liberal and conservative elites are in fact abetting the criminal rampage through our society” (Snyder). The one thing that holds back every man or woman is fear. Knowing you can get shot attempting to robbing a purse will pressure the thief much more and persuade him not to do so. Being unable to shield ourselves will leave us defenseless. Our lack of protection means we will have to rely on the police to keep us from harm. But how effective will that be? If an act of assault happens, the culprit can be gone by the time any help shows up. With protection in our bags or pockets, we will be capable of defending ourselves right on the spot.
