Standing points on Pro-Choice

Abortion, known as the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy, has become one of the most controversial topics in the American culture. Because of the extremists from both pro-life and pro-choice groups are taking their argument to the physical level, abortion has become a serious judicial issue rather than just another ethical problem in our society. As much as I am a faithful Christian, I believe abortion should remain legal because of all the effect it is doing and will continue to do to our society and the even the planet. As one of the main point, people who are Pro- Life argue that abortion involves killing a human being as the sixth commandment of Bible’s Old Testament says, “Thou shalt not kill. “(Exodus 20:13) However, according to Stuart W.G. Derbyshire, PhD, “not only has the biological development not yet occurred to support pain experience, but the environment after birth, so necessary to the development of pain experience is also yet to occur.” (Derbyshire) Which proves that the fetus doesn’t really feel the pain caused by the process. On top of that, before the 3rd trimester, the fetus hasn’t really developed any organs completely so it can’t really be considered as a person. Therefore, as long as the process is being taken place before the 3rd trimester, it shouldn’t be considered unethical, as most of the abortions are performed during the first trimester. Also, religion shouldn’t be one of the factors deciding whether something should be legal or not, otherwise that would defeat the purpose of separation of church and state established by our founding fathers. Most importantly, it should be a fundamental right for women to choose abortion as one of the last resorts, as they should be able to do what they choose to their body. On the other hand, abortion might be a more sympathetic and considerate decision for both the fetus and the carrier, as it may sounds ironic. First of all, in many cases, abortion is being performed under the situation where the carrier was pregnant due to rape and unwanted pregnancy. In which case, the mother would be dealing with psychological disturbance from the incident every time she looks at the child for the rest of her life. Knowing people should take responsibility of their own mistakes as if the pregnancy was due to lack of birth control, motherhood shouldn’t be a punishment for having sexual intercourse. Besides, a great number of people who choose abortion are people who don’t have the financial ability to take care of the child in the future. In which sense, it would be the best decision because not just the child would have to face the fact that it will be raised in poverty, the parents will also have to deal with a huge financial burden in the long run. Most importantly, a child should never come to the world unwanted. Regardless of the how the public thinks, the future of the child should be the first thing being taken consideration. On a greater scale, abortion is actually an effective tool for population control. As this planet is populating drastically during the past 100 years, the world population is getting closer to the point where it will surpass the amount of resource and capacity this
