College Essay

For the first time in my life I had to become a leader, a role model, and a warrior. I lead my team on a journey they would only dream was possible of achieving. Accomplishing making it to a volleyball state championship finals match most certainly had a tremendous impact on my transformation from childhood into adulthood. The struggles I had to commander while reaching my goal is what made me understand what it means and takes to be an adult. I learned how to be a leader, about responsibility, and dedication. The way I became a leader in my experience was by having to set an example everyday to my teammates. For example, one gloomy morning I woke up with a fever. I had the option of going to school and sucking it up or to stay home resting. But if I were to stay home I would have not been able to play in the game that was scheduled for that evening. Which meant letting my entire team down and there was no way I was going to let that happen, only over my dead body. So I put a sock in it and rode out the entire day and game feeling miserable, but I was not going to let it show. I had to prove to my team that even if that person is under the weather that is no reason to slack off and makes excuses. In adulthood I have learned that in order to succeed it is important to be responsible and be dedicated. Same way I was dedicated to not disappointing my team and responsible enough to show up.
