"To sleep is to be abstracted from the world; Funes on his back in his cot, in the shadows, imagined every crevice and every molding of the various houses which surrounded him.") basically, we can't know/remember and understand everything because it causes detrimental effects like that funes' superior memory is overwhelming because he can't even have his own personal thoughts without all sorts of memories clouding his mind he's kinda like a machine that has all this information but he can't relay the information because there is so much to say and every word that he uses can relate to another detail/memory and so on and so forth that it is difficult for him to even communicate. he gets caught up in all this information that he becomes this secluded weirdo to prove this, narrator says: "Without effort, he had learned English, French, Portuguese, Latin. I suspect, nevertheless, that he was not very capable of thought. To think is to forget a difference, to generalize, to abstract. In the overly replete world of Funes there were nothing but details, almost contiguous details.” (pg115)
"He knew that at the hour of his death he would scarcely have finished classifying even all the memories of his childhood." (pg.114) -- basically saying Funes had so much information in his head, but his effort to process it all is
