Missouri Missouri is a unique state. The history of Missouri began when the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France in April of 1803. Since then Missouri has flourished as a part of the United States. Missouri is located in the middle of the U.S. and is bordered by Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Its eastern border is the Mississippi River. Missouri’s climate is moderate with warm summers and cool winters. The average summer temperature is ninety degrees Fahrenheit and the average winter temperature is thirty-six degrees Fahrenheit. Missouri is the twenty-first largest state with 69,709 square miles. Manufacturing is the staple of Missouri’s economy, and its major cities are Kansas City and St. Louis. Missouri was granted it’s statehood in 1821 and it was the twenty-fourth state. The Gateway Arch was constructed in 1965. The Scott v. Sanford decision of 1857 occurred in Missouri and was a key contributor to the start of the Civil War. Missouri has a population of 6,010,688 people. Of those people, most of them are of Caucasian descent followed by African American, Hispanic, and Asian ethnicities. Jefferson City is the Capital of Missouri. Jay Nixon is Missouri’s current governor. Missouri has two senators and nine representatives in Washington D.C. and 34 in-state senators and 163 representatives, one for each county. Missouri is split into counties and has 163 of them. Missouri has been home to many famous people such as Walt Disney, Mark Twain, Jesse James, and Harry S. Truman. Missouri also has
