3 December 2014 FEAR and GUILT At a military camp near his palace at Forres, King Duncan asks an injured captain for news about the Scottish battle with the Irish invaders, who are led by the rebel Macdonwald.
The thane of Ross, a Scottish nobleman, enters and tells the king that the Thane of Cawdor has been defeated. Duncan decrees that the thane of Cawdor be put to death and that Macbeth,is be given the Cawdor’s title. Ross leaves to deliver the news to Macbeth.
The witches hail Macbeth as thane of Glamis and as thane of Cawdor. Macbeth is confused by this second title, since he has not yet heard of King Duncan’s decision. The witches also declare that Macbeth will be king one day.surprised, Macbeth presses the witches for more information, but they have turned their attention to Banquo, speaking in riddles. They call Banquo “lesser than Macbeth, and greater,” and “not so happy, yet much happier”; then they tell him that he will never be king but that his children will sit upon the throne. Macbeth asks the witches to explain what they meant but they vanish into thin air.
Macbeth visits with King Duncan, and they plan to have dinner together at Macbeth’s castle, that night. Macbeth writes ahead to his wife, Lady Macbeth, telling her all that has happened. Lady Macbeth has no problem with her plan to kill Duncan. She wants Macbeth to

become king and wants him to murder Duncan in order to be king . When Macbeth arrives at she ignores all of her husband’s objections and persuades him to kill the king that very night.
He and Lady Macbeth plan to get Duncan’s two guards drunk so they will black out; the next morning they will blame the murder on the guards, who will be defenseless, since they remember nothing. While Duncan is asleep, Macbeth stabs him, despite his doubts and a number of supernatural portents, including a vision of a bloody dagger. When Duncan’s death is discovered the next morning, Macbeth kills the guards and easily become king but he does it out of fear because he doesn't want to get caught. Duncan’s sons Malcolm and Donalbain flee to England and Ireland, respectively, fearing that whoever killed Duncan also want them dead.
Here, Macbeth realizes that if something is not done to Banquo, his sons will become
Kings. Macbeth can not have this. He had already worried that his soul will go to hell for what he had done. His fear become evident and] Macbeth has Banquo murdered, And Banquo’s son Fleance manages to escape from the attack. Next, Macduff refuses to accept Macbeth as king and flees to England to join Malcolm.
The witches tell him to beware of Macduff, which angers Macbeth and drives him to kill
Macduff's family. The fear of losing the battle with England makes Macbeth begin doing anything that will give him an edge in the final battle. Macbeth's fear is starting to consume him. He can no longer sleep and is ravaged by guilt over what he's done. Fear and guilt are consuming Lady Macbeth as well, and she is slowing losing her sanity. This is a result of her not being able to handle what she has done to Duncan. Her insanity is demonstrated well by this quote: “Out, damned spot!out,I say!One;Two:why,then 'tis time to do't. Hell is murky. Fie, my lord,fie! a soldier and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?”

Lady Macbeth is trying to wash what she thinks is blood on her hands. She mentions hell, and in her is sensed an obvious fear of going there for what she has done. in the beginning Lady Macbeth was the one pushing Macbeth
