Technically, marijuana is not illegal. According to the constitution of the United States of America, an amendment is need to prohibit the use of mind-altering substances. Clearly, there is no amendment stating the use of these substances, therefore, marijuana, or any narcotic for that matter, is legal. The current federal anti-drug law, the Controlled Substances Act of 1971, gets its authority from the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution, which gives the federal government power "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes." (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3)The legalization of pot blatantly contradicts the federal government’s classification of marijuana as an illegal Schedule I substance “considered the most dangerous class of drugs with a high potential for abuse and potentially severe psychological and/or physical dependence” . In a study marijuana is found to be less addictive than caffeine . So why not make caffeine illegal ? Because it generates to much money
As well as cigarettes and alcohol, weed can create profit and help save tax dollars. Hemp, which is marijuana without the THC, can be used for building walls which will last 500 years . It can also make clothes and fuel. Hemp is also much safer for the environment. Then, if the feds taxed marijuana at a rate comparable to cigarettes and alcohol, another $6.2 billion would come rolling in .
