Late Adulthood and Death The final years of an individual's lifespan mark the time for reflection of one's life while also spending time with family, including grandchildren, and maintaining physical and mental health throughout the entire stage of late adulthood. Quality of life in late adulthood is determined by genetics, the modification of destructive lifestyles and behaviors, and selecting healthier options not only throughout the earlier stages of development but especially in this stage for improvements to health and having an overall sense of well-being (Berger, 2008). Remaining socially active and independent for as long as possible instead An alteration in the habits an individual has can help curtail some of the negative effects that aging has on an individual, even later in their life (Berger, 2008). Berger states that the majority of chronic conditions or diseases that are connected to aging are very strongly influenced by an individual’s habits and daily practices throughout their life-span (Berger, 2008). The habits of an individual’s health are imperative to their wellness of a physical level (Berger, 2008). Detecting and maintaining things such as chronic conditions and diseases early on as well as making positive alterations to habits and daily routines and preventive medicine will aid in mitigating the negative effects of aging. An individual should be keeping a healthy diet, moderating their alcohol intake, and making sure they have an exercise routine. If they conjoined those things with making healthy decisions during late adulthood, they would make a large change in their health and wellness. Regular medical care from a good doctor or facility as well as preventive medicine can make a positive impact on maintaining one’s health and lessening the rough parts of aging. Relationships and Social Interactions Relationships and social interactions are an important part of human development throughout the entire life-span and this does not change in late adulthood as an individual nears the end of their life. It becomes increasingly difficult for an
to succumb to life's inevitable end (Gilbin, 2011). From listening to stories about when Mr. C. was much younger and able to take full control of his independence that making the transition from young adult and middle adult to the latter being late adulthood was the hardest to come to terms with and except fully. Hot cocoa was made for me and coffee was made for him by none other but Mr. C. I offered but that was not an option he insisted upon doing so. He maneuvered…
