Q1. (1.1) Outline current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own UK Home Nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people
Some of the main legislation related to safeguarding children began with the children Act (1989) this was updated with the children Act (2004) which included the principle of integrated children’s services and incorporated the five main principles of every child matters (2003).
The Act also introduced Local Safeguarding children boards. Which are statutory organizations in England and operate within each local area to ensure that services co-operate to promote the welfare of children and young people?

In 2010, another key document was updated and published by the government called working together to safeguard children; it outlines the key responsibilities for professionals in protecting children from harm and keeping them safe.

Q2. (1.2) Explain child protection within the wider concept of safeguarding children and young people.
The term Child Protection has been replaced by Safeguarding children with the broader idea of instead of protecting the child from harm to now prevent it from happenin. The Government has defined the term ‘safeguarding children’ as:
“The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully.
Child protection is part of the wider work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering from any form of abuse or neglect. It also involves protecting children and young people from maltreatment and preventing impairment of a child’s health and development by ensuring children are raised in positive circumstances by providing safe and caring environments. Parents or carers who fail to protect or care for their children could then be taken to court and the child be then removed from the home and placed into care.
Wider forms of safeguarding also include; risk assessments such as providing a safe environment inside and outside a residential setting. Adhering to the companies, procedures and legislation i.e. health and safety, fire drills and missing children.
Keeping up to date with training in safeguarding issues encouraging learning and development of children and young people.

Analyze how national and local guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding affect day-to-day work with children and young people.
National legislation and guidance influence the development of local policies and procedures that effect everyday work with children and young people it is very important for workplace settings to have clear policies and procedures that cover the protection of all children and young people under the age of 18. Policy requirements should for example state staff requirements a key member of staff being the named person as the main contact for all safeguarding issues, regular training and updating on all aspects of safeguarding the importance of all staff knowing their own role and responsibilities all staff to undertake CRB checks. Contact with children there should be clear procedures for managing personal care clear procedures about appropriate physical contact with children and young people clear policies about taking photographs or filming
