Korea: The North
What is the difference between North Korea and South Korea? North Korea is communist country and is run by a dictator. The events happening in North Korea resembles those of World War II. Many say that after the incident of the Holocaust such horrible event wouldn’t happen again, but it has been proven wrong.
Genocide is the killing of a certain race. The Holocaust is a good example because of its genocide against the Jews. The Holocaust happened during the World War II and was a systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime. For example, many Jews lost their life during the Holocaust. It says, “In 1933, the Jewish population of Europe stood over nine million. By 1945, the Germans and their collaborators killed nearly two out of every three European Jews as part of the ‘Final Solution.’” The Final Solution was Hitler’s plan to murder Jews of Europe. The holocaust killed six million Jews but in total it killed more than eleven million. Hitler also wrote a book stating all his plans. Hitler says, “I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the almighty creator. By defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the lord.” Hitler explains, in his book Mein Kampf, his future plans. He wrote the book in 1922 and he actually follows through with his ideas and actually did what he wrote down in the book. A survivor from the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel, wrote a book about his stay at the camps. Elie Wiesel says, “Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.” Here Elie describe how it was at the concentration camps. He describes how he can never forget those burning bodies that he saw and the terrible things that the Nazis did to the Jews. The Holocaust was a revolutionary event that changed the minds of people. When North Korea’s first president, Kim IL Sung, came to power he created the country’s policy of self-reliance. Kim was the first president of North Korea. “Factionalist of enemies of class, whenever they are; their seed must be eliminated through three generations’ – Kim IL Sung (1972) Kim became the first president ion 1948. His died in 1994 and he ruled North Korea for forty-six years. What’s happened during the Holocaust repeats itself in North Korea. It says, “North Korea has systematically starved political prisoners in its prison camps since its inception in 1945, where, at this moment, 250,000 slaves are daily subjected to state-induced mass starvation, public executions, inhumane torture, rape, brutal forced labor, forced abortion and infanticide.”(Park) This relates to the Holocaust because of the horrible treatments. It seems like Kim got all these horrible torturing from the Holocaust. Another quote that states that it is similar to the Holocaust says, “Precious time has been and continues to be wasted while masses of North Koreans innocents toil in hellish conditions suffer brutality and die.”(Park) It seems like events happening in North Korea is like the second Holocaust. Many are suffering and dying for no reason. Innocent citizens are dying every day in North Korea. As it can be seen, the things taking place in North Korea resembles the Holocaust in so many ways.
