The cover of “Life as we knew it” is a picture of the night with the moon that is closer to the earth. There is a forest at the bottom of the cover and there is snow cover the floor and at the horizon there is another forest. There is a starlit night and a house on the right side of the horizon. the cover has an overall blue tint to it. The title “Life as we knew it” is in the center and the author “Susan Beth Pfeffer” is at the bottom. I chose this book because it has an interesting survival/sci­fi theme. It is about a meteor that impacts on the moon pushing closer to the earth’s orbit. I believe this will be an interesting book to read because i have been wanting to read a book about survival for a while now. I could not find a biography on this author. “Life as we knew it” is a frightening and very realistic story, which is about an asteroid colliding into the moon in our modern day. It documents the struggles and obstacles that Miranda(main character) must overcome. This book is one of the best of its kind and is a “must read” novel. The results in the moon’s increase of gravitational pull is catastrophic, there are massive tidal waves, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis that destroy coastal cities. Miranda’s family must adapt to survive this by, stockpiling supplies and getting the family together including her brother in college. An epidemic hits town and there is not medicine so Miranda goes to a nearby town to save her family. Since this book is part of a series and since I am only rating this book I would give it a 7 out of ten. I gave it a seven out of ten because it is a very interesting and unique idea. It is written realistically making me think that this is possible. It also has very good character development it shows how after this event MIranda changes a matures, she used to take everything for granted but now she must struggle for the basic necessities for her to survive. I did not give this book a 10 out of 10 because I prefer books about adventure and mythology this is a realistic book with a apocalyptic vibe to it.
