Violence in Juarez
Juarez is said to be one of the dangerous and deadliest cities in Mexico. More than 5,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the year of 2008, When a Sinaloa and Juarez Cartels had a personal fight over drug routes they once shared(USA Today). Thousands of troops and federal police have been sent to Juarez to stop the violence. Still after this shift murder rates in the Juarez are still high (according to unofficial tallies in the news media). “For rent” signs cover doors of a lot business from nightclubs to any general type of store in Juarez due to the violence (USA Today). Many of these businesses are crossing over to El Paso, Texas, Juarez border city due to no customers due to the violence in Juarez. Many people have stopped going out to the streets of Juarez, and only go out when necessary, such as work, running errands, or going to school. So many businesses you would see in Juarez are now in El Paso, Texas. Citizens in Juarez demand to end the violence in Juarez, but it will not end (USA Today).

It all began between two drug cartels not agreeing with something, When Sinaloa Cartel kingpin (Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman) and Juarez Cartel Boss (Vicente Carrillo Fuentes) had a personal fight over their drug routes that they shared. Both Guzman and Fuentes lost family members due to the fight and it increases from their. The war started on (January 5, 2008), when 5 men were killed with riffles and several days after several police officers and two dozen or more were also killed. Thousands of military troops and federal police were sent to Juarez, (May 2008) to stop the violence, but that has not stopped anything. The killings went away for a while but they started again, as all of this violence hurt the drug trafficker’s income, carjackings, bank robberies, and Kidnapping began happening. There is no comparison in murder rated in cities around the world, Making Juarez among one of the most dangerous and deadliest cities in the world, a death rate of 173 per 100,000 residents. Many other Cities in Mexico are suffering form the same kind of violence but nothing like the violence happening in Juarez said President (Felipe Calderon). Many businesses know have for rent signs covering the doors due to the violence. Most of Juarez young population got spooked by the shootouts in malls, bars, and discos that drew many people from El Paso Texas every weekend. The Chamber of Commerce says 6.000 businesses have closed in Juarez. Now many of Juarez Youth population stay at home or hang out at friend’s homes for safety reasons. Some of the businesses that are still open are the funeral homes where they have 7 times more deaths then in 2007 before all of this violence began. Many people in Juarez are no more precautious with their surroundings.

Anything can happen, for example if you stop at a stop sign you can get carjacked. Drivers are more scared to look at the car next to the, especially nice looking trucks, SUVs, or cars with tinted windows and probably no license plates because anything can happen anytime of the day. Most of the front page newspapers have photos of the violence happening in Juarez. One of the biggest newspaper headlines was that”No one was killed yesterday” (October 30, 2009). It was the first time there was no killings in 10 months, but by the end of that day nine people were shot. Emergency rooms, where doctors are saving the victims of the attacks are not immune. A doctor was in a surgery and a gunman barged in looking for the wounded men in an earlier shootout. Nurses, doctors and patients scrambled for cover, the men the gunman left after not finding who they were looking for, who were armed and hiding in the bathroom.
