Christianity began over 2000 years ago. A Jewish man by the name of Jesus was born to a married woman who was said to be a virgin by the name of Mary her husband’s name was Joseph. It is believed that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and he was born in Bethlehem. The first stories of Jesus’ life are of when he was about 12 years old. Jesus is said to have been found by his parents in a Jewish temple talking to rabbis about the Torah. His response to his parents who had been looking for him was, “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” More stories are told about Jesus’ life, his teachings, and his death when he was a grown man in about his 30 years of age. The bible is believed to be inspired by the word of God therefore it is considered to be the Holy Scriptures of Christianity. The first four books of the New Testament in the bible are referred to as The Gospel, meaning (good news). These four books were written years after Jesus’ death. Mark, Matthew and Luke are the first four books and are very similar. They talk about Jesus’ way of life and his teachings. John, the last book of The Gospel focuses on confirming that Jesus was the son of God. Jesus is thought to be the divine son of God. He taught people to love one another including their enemies, Jesus wanted to inform everybody that he had been chosen by God to come and pay the ultimate sacrifice for all of humanity. “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of you Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sunrise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust,” The Holy Bible. He preached that whoever believed in him would inherit the kingdom of God. Throughout Jesus’ life he went around towns spreading the word of God, he spent time preaching to all sorts of people without discriminating against all forms of sinners. Some of the miracles Jesus performed were healing the sick, he turned water into wine, he brought dead people back to life, he walked on water, he casted demons out of people who were possessed and he multiplied bread and fish enough to be able to feed thousands. Jesus also taught that although we are all sinners we need to repent by asking God to forgive us of our sins, this is essential to inherit eternal life. After death comes judgment when it’s time to come face to face with God and give him an account of our lives and all of our shortcomings. When the word about Jesus’ teachings begin to spread and those in authority began to hear what Jesus was teaching they didn’t like what they heard. He was becoming known as the Messiah, the son of God. By this time Jesus had already predicted what was to come to his disciples. It is said that he knew that one of his disciples was going to betray him. Judas betrayed by selling information that lead to Jesus’ arrest. Authorities believed that Jesus was blaspheming by claiming that he was the son of God. He was sentenced to death and was tortured and crucified along with two thieves. After his death he was wrapped in white cloths and buried in a cave covered by a large stone. A guard was left to watch over the tomb to make sure the body wasn’t taken by his followers for proper burial. The story says that about two days later which is thought to have been a Sunday some of the women that had been following Jesus went to the tomb and found an empty tomb with the big stone rolled away. Angels appeared to the women and told them that Jesus had resurrected from the dead. Many stories were later told that Jesus had appeared to some of his disciples and told them to go out and make disciples of all nations, instructing them to follow all that he had already taught them. Sunday is the day when most Christians gather in their churches or temples. Their services are led by pastors or priests. The sermon is based on stories or passages taken directly from the bible.
