Is the Constitution still relevant?
When being asked the question, is the constitution still relevant? I automatically think yes, not because it would sound good but because this is America and anything is possible. But then again I sit and ask myself as a young adult what do I truly know about the constitution that I can say it is relevant. I wasn’t there when 38 of 41 delegates signed it on September 17, 1787. I wasn’t there to know how citizens felt about it, or even if they obeyed it. But I am here now to see if it is still relevant so, I choose to take the first five amendments out of the 27 to see if I could still say it is truly relevant.
The first amendment is the Freedom of Speech, Religion, Press, and Expression. Freedom of speech is the right to speak or write freely. That is how I am giving you this speech right now. I can say and write what I want without being told it is illegal or against a rule. I don’t fear any repercussions on what I say because of this amendment. Freedom of religion is where there cannot be one national religion of which every citizen must be a believer in or worship. As an American citizen I get to choose any region I want to believe in or if I even want to believe in any type of religion. I get that freedom.

The second amendment is the Right to Bear Arms, which means we the people have the right to own and carry firearms, knives, swords or whatever weapons we want. The founders of this country believed that the people should possess the arms so they could defend their liberty. George Washington even said “Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and the keystone under independence.” Thomas Jefferson said “No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Still to this day we have the right to bear arms but as Jefferson say as a last resort to protect ourselves.

The third amendment is Quartering of Soldiers. This means as an American you do not need to house soldiers even if they are asked, and the government can't just let soldiers stay in people's houses without telling them about it. You make the decisions because you are the owner. It is your right to let whoever you want in your house. This is still used today because as an owner of any property you are allowed to say who can or cannot be allowed on it.

The fourth amendment is the right to Search and Seizure. The 4th Amendment to the Constitution states that everyone has the right to not be searched or have their things seized unless there is a valid reason. That valid reason must be
