Is America Exceptional? American Exceptionalism, a theory that the United States is different and unique compared to other nations. I do believe that this theory is true, but then again I do not because the word exceptional gives off the wrong impression of America. Our founding fathers established our government for the purpose of protecting our God-given rights. Our Constitution establishes our government as one of laws and not of elite people and our Constitution intends for our government to be run by men and women who are elected and appointed by the people. There has been magnificent things accomplished since the founding of the United States, but the accomplishments are not solely what makes it exceptional. America is exceptional because we, the people, are all equal. We have equal freedoms and are able to do basically whatever we choose to without limitations. In an article on the Washington post it states that what also makes America special is that its core belief that all men are created equal. In the United States you are able to become successful even if you’re parents weren’t and same with becoming a citizen. You can become a citizen of the United States even if you were not born here. Everything is very open-ended here; there is nothing that can’t be done by the people living here. In other countries, there are hierarchies and birth determines where you stand in these. In America you are able to work your way up to various higher positions in society or the work field. Anything is possible and you are not limited from accomplishing anything.
What makes America exceptional is not because we think that we are better than every other person in other countries. We are exceptional because our ideals, as contained in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, are exceptional. As stated above in America there is the idea that all men are created equal, is one of the ideas that make America exceptional. We are exceptional because we have different ideas then other people, not because we are better then them. Americans have worked hard to make these ideas possible and to make them realistic and true. We, as people have can be as creative as we please changing these ideas as we go along. People are able to go against any idea put forward if they want to. While they may not be accepted for going against what majority believe in, they still have the option to do so. We are able to change the circumstances at any time that we want. People are able to overcome different things with their own ideas. There is no one set way to doing things in America.
