Aged Care Industry background
The statistics can be astounding, according with aged care online (2011)If dementia were a country, it would be the world’s 18th largest economy. If dementia was a company it would exceed American giant Wal-Mart’s profits by almost US$200 billion and Exxon Mobil’s profits by almost $US300 billion. The sheer cost and growth of dementia means that according to Alzheimer’s Australia, Australia will face a shortage of 150,000 paid and unpaid carers by 2029.
One of the causes of this is the growing demand for skilled workers to provide care for the elderly, particularly those with dementia. Alzheimer
This approach is elaborated under the principle that any old people are individual and they need to be treated according with this.

4. IT Technology

One of the major changes inside Domain Principal Group is the creation of a unique system which integrates the 58 facilities. This system is called UNIDOC which allows to have in one database the medical and personal information of the 5000 residents.
This system, as well, allows simplifying the documentation in all the facilities, the standardisation took two year to complete it.

B. External Forces of Change

1. Marketplace structure in caring elder people

The department of Health and Ageing (2008)analysed the population of old people and the care that they will need and conclude that the traditional structures for caring for the elderly are declining. Historically, the principal source of care for the infirm elderly (indeed, for all people in need of daily care) has been women looking after their own family members, mostly in their own homes. One main change is the increasing propensity for people to live alone (over the past century, total population has grown fivefold, but the number of households has grown tenfold). This includes old people living alone, rather than with their children as they might have done in earlier generations. The second main change is the movement of adult women into paid employment.
