Factor that need to be taken into account when assessing a child in the setting

We need to keep all polices and procedure of the setting when assessing a child and lock away all secure information about each child that a parent or guardian has given to us.
When using multi agencies to assess a child’s development we need to ask the parents or guardians permission before contacting them as we need to share personal information about that child and the parents have every right to tell us no.
The only time we ever contact any one without their permission is when we think the child is in significant harm and we then have the right to do so without their permission.
When assessing a child we need to review the development of that child and assess that child based on the level of their development and create a plan both for the long and short term.
Young children are all different and grow and develop at different rates so young children are difficult subject to analyse accurately. This is because children have short attention span, wariness of strangers, they are inconsistent in their performances in an unfamiliar environment.
Other factors that may come in to practice when assessing a child’s performance is that a child may not have been interacting with other children, parents or guardians may not have read them books, or there might be cultural differences and the language barrier comes into effect and we have to find another means of communication..
