1. Why is the balanced chemical equation needed for stoichiometric calculations

A balanced chemical equation is needed for stoichiometric calculations because the stoichiometric coefficients are the number written in front of atoms, ion and molecules in a chemical reaction to balance the number of each element on both the reactant and product sides of the equation. These stoichiometric coefficients are useful since they establish the mole ratio between reactants and products.

2. Write the balanced equation (including states) for the reaction observed in this experiment

Na2CO3(s)+CaCl2(s)CaCO3(s)+2NaCl(aq)

3. Classify the chemical reaction

This type of chemical reaction is a double displacement reaction

4. Which reactant is the limiting? Show all steps in your calculations (use exact masses you measured for your reactants)

5. Calculate the theoretical yield to that of the yields of the insoluble solid produced and isolated in this experiment (show all your work)

6. Why is step #6 of the procedure necessary?

This step is very important because when washing the precipitate in the filter paper with 25ml of distilled water it will isolate the precipitate being calcium carbonate draining all the water from it and leaving it so you can get a more exact measurement.

7. Calculate the percent yield of the production of the solid. (Use the exact mass of the solid you measured and make sure to show all of your work)
