Without rules and regulations all civilization would plunge into chaos, as there would be nothing protecting us from one another’s most basic self serving instincts, and sometimes self-destructive habits. Often time’s simple rules and regulations protect us from ourselves, such as not touching a hot furnace or driving through an intersection when the light is red. If we look just at laws of the road one can quickly see how many devastating accidents would occur (and how many lives would be ruined) if no one followed the rules of the road. Without the utmost care to follow these rules, things that could easily be prevented may happen, resulting in very negative things.

The most common rules and regulations are about common courtesy and appearance. These are important to all soldiers, as this is what the citizen’s of countries all over the world judges the U.S. Army. Since we as a group are split all across the world, many people see us each and everyday. Some countries only see Americans through the soldiers they see everyday. We represent the pride and honor of the American nation, and without following the rules and regulations that govern our common courtesies and appearance we do nothing but fail at our duty, and let down the American people.

Failure to follow rules and regulations can lead to terrible consequences both on and off the battlefield. Not only do you risk losing your life (or being the cause for your Battle Buddies losing their lives), but your can forfeight your pay and lose your rank. Rank is far easier to lose than it is to earn. When you lose your rank it naturally follows that you have a permanent loss in income due to the fact that the pay scale is based of your rank. If you have a family and you need that money than you’ve personally put your family through hardship due to your failure as a soldier and a man, thus leading them to live b your diminished means. How are you going to afford to purchase school supplies for the kids, or a new car for the wife when you’ve lost several hundred dollars a month due to your inability to follow basic
