The Importance of Communication with your Chain of Command
Communication is the foundation for sharing information between people to ensure that everything is understood and the correct action can be taken in a timely manner. Good communication is essential to complete the mission at hand. Without good communication to your chain of command it makes it impossible for your leaders to communicate to their superiors about problems or issues that you or others may be having. The (National Joint Committee for the Communicative Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities, 1992, p. 2) defines communication as "Any act by which one person gives to or receives from another person, information about that person's needs, desires, perceptions, It’s to serve the people of the United States of America and without proper communication it is impossible to complete the mission and to fulfill our duties as Soldiers. Another example how bad communication can affect the garrison mission is a failure to double check and make sure that you completely understand the mission through asking questions and not assuming you know what’s going on. Your unit is having a convoy live fire exercise and you are told a series of safety precautions and directions on how to complete your mission. If you don’t make sure you understand your directions completely and ask questions and voce your concerns this could lead to confusion among the unit and result in unnecessary injury or even death. In conclusion communication with your chain of command is very important for these reasons. The mission cannot be successful without proper communication up and down the communication chain. If the proper information isn’t communicated Soldiers and leader cannot do their job affectively. An unhealthy communication chain between subordinates and there leaders sets there leaders up for failure and cannot succeed in completing the mission. And leaders that don’t communicate down the chain set there Soldiers up for failure as well.
