Growing up I did not form an attachment to pets, as they did not last long around my house. They were soon, hauled off or given away. When I had my daughters, they had lot of pets come and go and they loved their animals, attachments did not seem to happen. My grandsons who reside with me had given to them, a puppy in 2003, which we named Bella a chi/mix, and although they loved her, I still felt no attachment. It is not as though I did not like dogs just that I was not around them a lot growing up and as such had no experience with them. We moved around a lot also as my dad was in the military so a dog would have been an inconvenience, especially moving to a foreign country, with all the quarantine laws and regulations.

In 2005 we went to the Humane Society in Yuma where there was an emaciated puppy who had been returned three times and I felt sorry for him and brought him home, we named him Jack. Before we left, a woman came in with a box of puppies and my daughter grabbed one, he was a border collie/poodle mix she named him Maxx. Then in 2006, we moved to Wellton, found a house with a big yard and we all including Bella, Jack, and Maxx loved it.

Later in 2008, Bella befriended a miniature Chihuahua, who climbed under our fence, and a few months later, she gave birth to five beautiful puppies, which we decided to keep. However, that was short-lived as they all contracted Parvo from a friend's dog, and all one by one died. Those were very tense months as they all became ill and we held and fed them, and we tried so hard to care for them and I fell in love with each one, we gave them all names, and as each one died, buried them and cried. I had given up hope and my daughter fed and bottled fed the baby (the runt),
