There are various forms of barriers that can interrupt communication in health and social care context. Many of these barriers are centered on human disabilities, cultural variations, forms of speech, the type of communication being used example if the communication is a one-on one interaction of group interaction. If to eliminate these barriers we must understand how to achieve effective communication so we may be able to by-pass these barriers. Below I will list some of the barriers found when communicating and explain their nature.

Barriers associated with human disabilities and learning impairments
Since some of the teenagers in the hostels have some forms of disabilities such as hearing and learning difficulties, communicating can be a problem as their needs might be ignored and that can therefore lead to poor communication and serve as a barrier. Some of the points below can help overcome these barriers. * Hearing disabilities: to overcome hearing disabilities in the hostel, the manager needs to announce the other people in the hostel that there are members with hearing disabilities making them aware of some technique when communicating to those with the disability. People leaving in the hostel should make their facial expressions clear when communicating; they should also use clear speech and avoid shouting when communicating. The hostel should also have a lot of pictures and written information on the walls and boards that suggest particular actions to take in case of emergencies or new changes in the hostel. These signs can help others with hearing disabilities when they need instructions. The manager could also employ staff that can use sign language to help people who leave in the hostel. * Learning difficulties: to overcome this barrier the manager and other people in the hostel need to be informed of the learning difficulties some individuals may have so that they are aware of the nature of their condition. Learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism and non-verbal learning difficulties can be dealt with when communicating by increasing understanding of them also if people in the hostel become more patient and considerate effective interactions can be achieved. * Physical disabilities: these disabilities often involve sensory impairments, which are difficult to deal with when communicating. This form of barrier can be eliminated in the hostel by the provision of technology aids which amplify the sensory abilities. This in turn will help during with effective understanding and communication. * Other forms of disabilities: other forms of disabilities such as sight can also serve as a barrier in the hostel, when speaking to such people one should use descriptive words and offer help to those with disability. This helps communication and improves the confidence of with such a disability. Other methods can be used to achieve good communication amongst people, processes such as group meetings will ensure that those with disabilities are not isolated and are involved in conversations.

Barriers associated with Cultural variations
Cultural variation can interfere with communication within the hostel as different people from different cultures are present and they have their own values and beliefs therefore not considering this might cause offense during communication. These barriers often came in the form of assumptions which people make about other cultures or not having knowledge about a particular type of culture. Various cultures also have verbal and non- verbal way of communication which might be accepted or considers disrespectful.

* Assumptions: assuming things about others during a conversation can lead to communication not being effective as some people might find it disrespectful, or might think their individual views and ideas are not being considered because an assumption has already been made. To overcome this barrier in communication amongst people in the hostel, I
