Growth rate in yeast following the Q10 rule
Aim: The aim of this experiment was to find out how temperature affects the growth rate on yeast following the Q10 rule.
Hypothesis: My hypothesis for this experiment is that the growth rate of yeast will increase as the temperature increases following the Q10 rule. However this will only be true up to the optimum temperature because when the optimum temperature has been reached, enzymes will denature meaning growth rate will not be high.
Justification for hypothesis:
The reason behind my hypothesis is that the Q10 rule states that as you increase temperature, the rate of reaction will doubles up to the optimum temperature where it will then denature. Yeast is a single celled fungus made up mostly of protein which has been used for its applications in fermentation. Yeast has to make energy, stored as ATP to carry out all cellular functions. To do this they can respire both aerobically when there is plenty of oxygen, but where oxygen is short, they respire anaerobically as it does in this instance. A yeast cell would need to carry out respiration in order to carry out ATP. A yeast cell would need ATP for processes such as cell division.

As the process needs ATP, it requires enzymes. Enzymes are catalysts which speed up reactions; they are made from protein and are specific as to which substrate they work on. Each enzyme has an optimum temperature which is the temperature range at which the enzyme performs best. For many enzymes, the optimal temperature range is usually warm; therefore growth rates should rise as temperature increases as it is getting closer to its optimum temperature.

Method:
1. First we made Liquid Cultures (50 cm3)

2. We then had to Inoculate the liquid culture with 0.05g of yeast

3. After doing this we
